Final course-self reflection

During this course, I was assigned as a team leader for many tasks like the meeting and the final project. Moreover I learned how to write a C.V in a professional manner and how to prepare for  job interview.
In the beginning, I just started with doing my C.V. I was given an examples by the teacher  to write and effective C.V that reflects me and my knowledge in a way that any reader can view it and sort it an easy and comfortable way. The first draft of my C.V was quite reasonable, but after that I wrote one which I think is the best, and I intend to use it in the future. For the first time I came to know that I have to write a cover letter for the C.V, in fact I have never thought about it. Secondly, I had to prepare myself for a job interview, I started with practicing questions and answers, the idea for the job interview practice in this course is not just to live the environment of such interviews, but the target is to know how to present yourself and gain the admire of the interviewer and also to think before you answer any questions so that the interviewer will know that you are mature in your answers. Thirdly, we learned how to conduct a meeting s. in fact I conducted several meetings before, and I was a leader too in most of them, however in this course what I learned is different as we learned that before conducting any meeting we should first identify the purpose of it and who will be the attendees and what should be the outputs and course of actions that to be follow. I was the leader for my group and this was good as I gained good skills in leadership, I had to set the topics and assign tasks for my team so everyone takes his role and then report to me the status, we learned to effectively build a topic for the meeting and points for discussion and initiating course of actions that is then formulated in minutes of meeting.  I think we were successful in this topic as we worked as one team.  At the end of this course we had to write a final project as and give a presentation on that too. I was assigned again as a team leader because my team had a confident on me to lead them for that. We have to write a report of information security, and the report has to be not less than 2000 words which was really a challenge to me and to my team. Honestly,  the difficult part is to divide the topics between me and my team members  and this was not an easy task as they were in different level of thinking , but I guess I succeeded to assign each one of the part which I thought it would fit to them. I am happy to say it succeeded and everyone did his part of gathering information and references for the project and then we gather them in one document and applied our magic touch to make it a good report.  When we were done we prepared our self for the presentation and as usual we divided topics between us and practiced it , it worth to say it didn’t pass good as some of the team members haven’t practiced well and as a result the presentation didn’t go well.

In conclusion, the course was really fruitful in the contents and I learned many things and I gained many skills. Now I feel that I am more confident about myself to write my own C.V, to conduct a meeting, and to search for information to write a project and finally I learned how to lead a team.

Meeting self reflection

The work environment is really something interesting and at the same time it makes our life so busy. We always want to make ourselves professional and experts in our field of career. Every day we learn something that adds a value to our knowledge and gives us strength to manage our profession more effectively.
I have involved in several meetings since I started working long time ago, and in most of these meetings I was as a member and in some others I was the leader as well. However; some of these meetings had no proper plan, objectives or a clear purpose and on the other hand the rest might be more efficient in term of planning and the objectives.
During this course I found that by observing a few simple rules before conducting any meeting will help to make the meeting more effective, fruitful and meet its purpose and the objective. The following is essential to success the meeting
  1. The leader has to Identify the start and the end time of the meeting so that participants know when the meeting will start and end as they are busy in many other tasks in their daily work and need to organize their time as well.
  2. Creating an agenda and circulating among the attendees is one of the most important things to be done  by the leader so that the attendees should know the flow and the sequence of the meeting discussion and they would prepare themselves for a discussion and for the reflection of any opinions.
  3. The leader has to State clearly the objective and the purpose to contribute to the desired outcomes so that the participants can work together to achieve it
  4. The leader must Review the minutes and action items.  This rule is very important in order to document all the action items so that the outcomes can be measured and the objective will be met
  5. The leader has to clarify the action items so that all involved attendees know what should they do after the meeting and what are the expected results from them.
  6. At the end the leader has to determine the next meeting date with the attendees in order to discuss all the achievements so far and to decide what the next steps are.
I believe by following these steps the quality of meetings will be improved and at the same time we will make our time more productive and objectives will be met.
